Is there anything I need to do to prepare my child for the evaluation?
Yes! Your child should get a good night's rest the night before and have a filling and healthy breakfast the day of the evaluation. Testing is usually scheduled when your child is most alert and breaks are taken as necessary. Bring snacks and something to drink in case your child is hungry.
Let them know that they will be meeting with a person who is here to help you and them figure out the sources of their difficulties- not being organized, having trouble in certain subjects, etc.
Explain to them that everyone learns in different ways and that I am here to help figure out how their brains learn to make their school life much easier and interesting.
Try to not make a big deal about the evaluation and tell them to just do their best.
DO NOT test them on subjects the night before. Being relaxed and having a good night's rest is the best preparation for your child.
If your child takes medication for ADHD, have them take the medication as normally done so, for the evaluation.
If your child wears corrective eyeglasses, make sure to bring those to the evaluation.
